The possibility of any African presence in the Americas before Columbus tends to be rejected out of hand a priori. It is generally seen as an attempt by Blacks to lay claim to the civilisations which developed there, in particular the Olmecs of Central America. However, in our search for the truth, the sensible thing is to weigh the evidence carefully. The first point to be made is that the first inhabitants of the Americas are known to be descendants of Australians.

With this in mind, it is not that farfetched to consider the possibility of an African presence too.
