The St. Stanislaus College’s Hindu Society participated in the
Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Rangoli competition on the 25th of October
at the Kendra, Prashad Nagar, placing fourth among the premier schools in
Georgetown.
Rangoli is a decoration for Diwali that signifies purity. It is made out
of coloured rice and used like a carpet to place Diyas to enhance decorations
on the night of Diwali. It is also used for weddings and other Hindu celebrations.
In celebration of Diwali, Miss Taramattie Gomattie also coordinated a
concert on the afternoon of Friday October 28th in the Marion Forum. The
concert included an Acrostic and Skit of the story of Diwali performed by the
first formers. An African and Indian Drumming performance by form one
classmates Colaun Hazelwood and Naresh Mahadeo. Tassa Drumming, Dances and a
fashion show of traditional Indian Clothing. Students of all ethnicities and
religious backgrounds took part in the concert and helped make it a success.
