Climate Change and LCDS Secondary
Schools Quiz 2014
The
Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) promoted by Guyana and specifically by
the office of the President, is a new innovative response to the challenges
posed by Global Climate Change and the dangers its presents to the human and
economic well-being of the developing countries such as Guyana.
This
Quiz is mean to be a key information and educational tool on climate change
REDD and the LCDS to create greater knowledge and awareness among the general
Guyanese population with specific focus on young Guyanese. In this initiative,
the Ministry of Education and the Students and the Teachers of participating
Schools are important partners with the Office of Climate Change at the Office
of the President as well as the National Communication Network Inc.(NCN).
On
November 11th, 2014, St. Stanislaus College, represented by four
students, participated in the above mentioned quiz. They were Elizabeth
Persaud, Nathon Hackett, Dhansham Samaroo and Amarnauth Narain. The quiz
consisted of three segments with questions on Climate Change and Guyana. St.
Stanislaus College was victorious against Bishop’s High School with a point
standing of forty eight (48) to thirty (30). Nathon Hackett was recognized as
the student with the most points and therefore was awarded the best scorer for
the match.
The
team now proceeds to Round 2 of the competition.
