Seeking Support to Pursue a Career in Medicine
My name is Cleon Bovell. I am the first of three children and was born on the 11th November, 1998 in Linden, Guyana. I did my Primary education in Linden at the Watooka Day Primary School. After writing the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) in 2010, I was awarded a place at St. Stanislaus College (SSC). My studies at SSC were completed in July 2017 after seven memorable years with the distinction of being the first CAPE student from SSC to have obtained 10 Grade I’s in the Science subjects. The table below shows all of my CSEC and CAPE grades.

I am extremely proud of my achievements and am hoping that I would be considered for the award of a scholarship which would allow me to realise my dreams of pursuing medical studies to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
I have so far enrolled to do first year Biology at the University of Guyana and am hoping to obtain a transfer to their medical program at the earliest opportunity.
In addition to achieving good grades, I enjoyed being involved in other extra-curricular activities which included cricket and athletics, as well as participation in club related activities such as those concerned particularly with science and the environment. This has made me to be a well rounded individual and led to my appointment as Head Prefect of the College prior to my graduation.
My main ambition is to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and to be one of the best in this field. It is my intention and firm commitment to return to Guyana upon graduation and later specialisation to assist in enhancing our medical capabilities locally.
It is my dream that after building my reputation to being among the best cardiothoracic surgeons in this part of the world, most of the Caribbean citizens would then prefer to travel to Guyana for treatment rather than travelling to the developed world where they would incur far greater cost.
My vision of giving back to my country is to establish a speciality research and teaching hospital through which I can offer my services internationally. As Guyana’s energy resources allows it to take greater advantage of the Digital Revolution, I am convinced that I can both serve my country at the local level while fully participating internationally in the latest research developments.
Attached please find copies of my official academic achievements up to date.

Sincerely,

Cleon Bovell
