The Salvador (Malê) Revolt

The Malê Revolt (1835)
Often regarded the most significant rebellion in Brazil. In Salvador de Bahoa a group of self-educated muslim slaves and freemen made plans to revolt after being inspired by other slave rebellions in particular Haiti and its president Dessalines.
Following word getting out of their plan the African Mâle (muslims) were forced to start early. Hundreds of them marched through the city. However with prewarning the armed forces of over 1000 were well prepared and halted the revolt.

Many of the Africans would be killed during the revolt and Islam and education were surpressed. Perhaps a positive result of this revolt is that this is likely the reason for the abolishment of the slave trade in 1851. To prevent more slaves who could unite.
